Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 manages to be more than honest-to-god entertainment, one that has the liberated weirdness of material (like a stealth We3 adaptation) that was never expected to find a mass audiences. Remarkably, given the studio brand: this is absolutely Gunn's movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the end of the first chapter of James Gunn's team of super A-holes, closing out his found family trilogy, but opening up hope for the future of the MCU.

In plainer English, this means there will be no Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4, or at least not one that will be anything like the first three. For further proof, when asked by fans if there were any plans for a Vol. 4, Gunn flat out stated that there were none.

Marking the end of James Gunn's trilogy in the MCU, the film is incredibly emotional and sad, even when it boasts the Guardians' trademark sense of humor.

Phyla, a new character from the original Marvel Comics, is introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and becomes a member of the new Guardians of the Galaxy team. Phyla's significance is revealed in the post-credits scene, where she joins the new team led by Rocket.

After relinquishing his throne, Quill went back to his roguish old life, fighting the Badoon, saving orphans, and flirting with Pryde. He'd eventually return to Earth when the Guardians became stranded there, so he became a bartender at a dive where villains regularly convened.

So, I went to see Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. It's a bit hard to watch in some scenes, because the treatment of the animals (in cages) by the High Evolutionary is pretty grotesque. I was surprised it affected me as much as it did.
