Automated call offering 50% off my 'existing account'

Just received an automated call on my cell phone (T-Mobile). It went something like this:

"Hi there. I'm calling from Comcast Xfinity. Your 'existing account' is eligible for 50% off. To take advantage of this offer, call (phone number) between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Pacific time."

Neither number was a known, recognized phone number for Comcast. Googling both phone numbers brought up no results.

I'm in Massachusetts, not in the Pacific time zone.

So...if I bring my phone down to the local Comcast store and play them this voicemail, will they give me 50% off my 'existing account'? Surely, they'll know about this offer? Automated call offering 50% off my 'existing account' - Comcast XFINITY (1)

I got the same thing, the only difference is they knew my 1yr promo rate was almost up and were offering a discount for renewing. Reminds me of the fake account verification calls I got last year shortly after signing up.

I have Internet, Xfinity Voice (home phone) and Flex, in which I had to go through Retentions to obtain it, because the local Xfinity store said I couldn't have Flex because of the phone service. I'm not on any contract.

If it sounds good to be true...

Yeah, to be eligible for Flex you just need to be an Xfinity internet subscriber who does not also subscribe to Xfinity TV service: »www.xfinity.com/support/ ··· overview

its the same scam call they do for AT&T and DIRECTV. its the same message they just change the company name

There`s two versions, one says "call the (phone number) between 8:00am and 5:00pm" and the other version says "to take advantage of this offer please call the number on your caller id"

OP mentioned not having TV service from Xfinity, but had to clear some hurdles to get the Flex box because he had landline phone service with them.

Why would having a landline disqualify you from having their streaming device?

It shouldn't.

Guess a clarification is in order...

I started with what became a grandfathered Triple-Play package, so I already had the Internet service. In fact, I have had Internet service with Comcast and predecessor companies since 2001. What I wanted to do, was keep the Internet service and Xfinity Voice, but move the TV service to Flex.

An employee at the local Comcast store said I could not have Flex, because I have Xfinity Voice. He swapped out my XB3 gateway for an XB7, so he knew I had Internet service as part of the Triple-Play package. From what I was told by Retentions when I called, what the store employee told me was incorrect. Retentions indicated because I already have the Internet service, I could indeed have Flex.

I ended up going back to the Comcast store for a second time, went to a different employee, told her what Retentions told me and swapped out the X1 boxes for Flex boxes.

Does that mean I can cancel traditional tv service and go to xfinity stream?? I would love to get rid of the cost of renting the boxes and go to all stream. Its not clear from xfinity whether I can do that.

Officially they say that you can only get flex and it's TV service if you do not already have regular TV service so you'd have to cancel and start over with only internet service. But, I think some people here have reported that they were able to short-circuit the process.

On the other hand streaming is available to anyone with normal service. If you have multiple X1 boxes you can replace some of them with a roku running the xfinity app and return the boxes. If you have a TCL roku TV, it's already there.

The Xfinity Stream app (regardless of device) requires TV service. You can replace some or all of your set top boxes with Rokus or Apple TV's and still have Xfinity TV service. You won't get charged any "TV Box fees", reducing your bill by $8.50 multiplied by the number of set top boxes you return.

However, you'll still have to pay the Broadcast and Regional Sports fees.
